the vision for taksim square takes on a landscape approach of re-naturalization for the primary purpose of using natural systems to address infrastructural problems, water management, heat-island effect, while also enhancing the public environment, attracting communal activity, and enhancing biodiversity. the landscape is understood as a comprehensive system connecting surface, sub-surface, and climatic conditions.
landscape stratgey: re-naturalization is achieved through 6 landscape typologies deployed across the site based on analysis of existing conditions and risks. the typologies, individually and collectively, enhance the ecological performance of the site while providing a rich palette of seasonal experiences at the human level. the diversity is also key to establishing bio-diversity in a contested urban site.
